Hong Kong fatal boat collision leads to arrests

Hong Kong fatal boat collision, Officials say more arrests may follow the fatal boat crash, the BBC's Juliana Liu reports from Hong Kong. Six crew members have been arrested from the two boats that collided in the waters off Hong Kong on Monday night leaving 37 people dead.
"Police arrested six individuals this afternoon. They are being investigated for endangering people's lives at sea," Security Minister Lai Tung-kwok said.
One of the boats was carrying more than 120 people to a fireworks display when it half-sank following the collision near Lamma Island.
The search for survivors is continuing.
The crash happened about 20:30 local time (12:30 GMT) on Monday. '
Care required by law'

Dozens of people were thrown into the waters as the pleasure boat sank within minutes of impact. The ferry was able to reach Lamma and disembark its passengers as it was taking on water.

The government has confirmed that 37 people died - 32 adults and five children. More than 100 people were injured. The number of people missing is unknown.
Police have arrested three crew members from each of the vessels involved in the accident, the security minister told a news conference.
The head of police, Tsang Wai-hung, said the suspects were responsible for operating the boats.
"From the investigation so far we suspect that the crew responsible for manning the two vessels had not exercised the care required of them by law to ensure the safety of the vessels as well as the people on board.
"We expect further persons to be arrested... The investigation will focus on criminal liability," he said.

Double Bomb blast In Maiduguri Leave Several JTF Members Injured

A bomb planted at the West End roundabout in Maiduguri has injured several members of the Joint Task Force in Maiduguri according to eyewitnesses.
According to the eyewitness we learnt that the  bomb embedded at the West End roundabout, which was remotely controlled, exploded around 10 AM Nigerian time.  The second blast was reported at Sabon Layi area in Gwange Ward.  Details of the second blast are sketchy.
The JTF spokesperson, Lt. Col Musa Sagir, confirmed there were explosions in the city but said a full briefing will be made to the media as the JTF was still actively patrolling the city to determine those responsible for the latest attacks.

439 Army graduate as counter-terrorism soldiers

 439 soldiers, Tuesday graduated from the Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Centre of  the Nigerian Army in Jaji, Kaduna State.
The Commandant of the centre, Brig.-Gen. Tijjani Golau, said the graduands were trained on identification of Improved Explosive Devices, search techniques as well as search and arrest procedures.

He  also said they received training in information and intelligence gathering techniques, rescue operations, patrol, and raids as well as fighting in built-up areas.

He added that  the participants had acquired requisite skills to enhance their performance.

The Army chief said, “Their training was very compact and intensive for three weeks and graduands have met the mandatory requirements as members of the Quick Response Group in the Nigerian Army.
